I support the President’s decision to complete the withdrawal of American troops and diplomats from Afghanistan at this time. As one of your constituents, I am asking that you also lend your support to him in this trying moment in our great Nation’s history. It’s important that our Congressional members should take this opportunity to rally together and stand behind our leadership because, at the end of the day, we are just as responsible for the poor outcome as they are. There’s enough blame to go around for all Americans because we were also persuaded by the rhetoric of the time to take action against the terrorists who perpetrated 9/11. America’s involvement in Afghanistan can essentially be traced back to the beginning of Bush’s War On Terror that was the American reaction to the destruction of the World Trade Center in NYC and the attack on the Pentagon. That was twenty years ago. We need to take a hard look at our reasons for being there at all after twenty years of trying to prop up an unwilling puppet government that had zero legitimacy from Day One. Enough is enough. Yes, lives were lost and money was squandered. Let’s not compound the problem by putting any more personnel and capital in harm’s way.
