“That’s fine, dude, I’m not mad at you,” Renee Nicole Macklin Good told the ICE agent seconds before he shot and killed her in Minneapolis on Wednesday.
Good’s last words are memorialized in newly released video footage seemingly taken by the agent on a cellphone as he circled her car.
So are the last words he, or possibly another ICE officer, spoke to her as she lay dead or dying: “Fucking bitch.”
“Nobody wants to see people get shot,” said Rep. Rich McCormick, R-Ga.
“Let’s do the right thing and just be reasonable. And the reasonable thing is not to obstruct ICE officers and then accelerate while they’re standing in front of your car,” he said. “She made a mistake. I’m sure she didn’t mean for that to happen, nor did he mean for that to happen.”
I expect they both would regret their actions at this point. But only one of them has that luxury.
The point to be taken from the latest, but most certainly not the last, sanctioned killing by our government, should not be ‘Yeah it happened but let’s not dwell on it. Mistakes were made.’
The point to be taken is that masked men, prepped for war, have been put on our streets to create the environment resulting in another death of an American citizen. A self-fulfilling prophecy that no thinking person would have believed would not happen.
Men with guns. Intimidating. Menacing in word and deed. Men who expect their every command to be immediately obeyed, regardless. Obeyed with the expectation that the result will be just, fair, and reasonable.
We’ve seen enough to know that’s not a given.
Stop blaming the victim. Stop giving guns to people who do not have the temperament to have one. Stop hiring thugs who are doing exactly what the current administration wants them to do.
Which is to scare us. Intimate us. Threaten us. Make us submit. Or kill us.
So yeah, keep telling us to just obey, regardless. While we also wonder what this GA Rep’s view is on the events of January 6 at the Capitol.
Guess it all depends on your version of reality. A reality that insists that maybe you just deserved killing.
