An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress

Stop unlawful NIH freeze, protect vital biomedical research funding

7 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!

The Trump administration is blatantly violating multiple federal court orders by maintaining an unlawful funding freeze at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This harmful freeze puts all NIH-funded biomedical research at risk, jeopardizing critical work on cancer treatments, heart disease prevention, stroke interventions, and more. Despite court injunctions expressly prohibiting this freeze, the administration persists in defying the law. Additionally, the announced $4 billion cut to indirect research funding at universities is another devastating blow that will cripple biomedical research nationwide. This reckless disregard for the rule of law and the importance of scientific advancement is unacceptable. Immediate action must be taken to enforce the court orders, lift the funding freeze, and reverse the harmful cuts to indirect research funding. The administration's attempts to sabotage biomedical progress under the guise of opposing "woke" ideology are misguided and will have severe real-world consequences. We urge you to take decisive steps to rein in this lawless behavior and protect the vital work of the NIH and research institutions across the country.
