The Trump administration's attempt to seize control of the federal government and hand over unchecked power to unelected billionaires is a direct assault on our democracy. We cannot allow this coup to succeed. Senate Democrats must use every procedural tool at their disposal to fight back and grind the Senate to a halt until this crisis is resolved. No cooperation should be given in confirming any of Trump's nominees, regardless of the position or perceived reasonableness of the individual. These nominees have pledged loyalty to Trump's extremist agenda and installing them is tantamount to enabling the coup attempt. Democrats alone cannot block nominees, but by voting no on every single one and forcing Republicans to muster every vote, they can apply immense pressure and make governing a painful slog. Equally crucial is the aggressive use of quorum calls and refusal of unanimous consent requests. By repeatedly calling for quorum checks, Democrats can bring Senate business to a standstill if Republicans lack a majority present. And objecting to every unanimous consent motion compels the GOP to follow torturous procedural steps, wasting immense time and resources on even the most basic actions. This multi-pronged approach of blanket opposition, persistent quorum disruptions, and unanimous consent denials is essential to delay and obstruct the Trump administration's alarming power grab. The goal is to slow the breakneck pace, allowing public outrage to build and generate the backlash needed to protect our democracy. Senate Democrats have the tools; now they must show the resolve to use them without compromise until this crisis is averted.
