Push back against the CIF and Governor Newsom’s anti-trans actions

I want to encourage you to strongly push back against the California Interscholastic Federation’s (CIF) decision to exclude trans athletes by forcing them to compete in a separate category. Not only is this action discriminatory, but it is also illegal under California state law which protects against discrimination based on gender identity. The CIF’s bigoted “pilot program” puts California in the shameful position of being the first blue state to institute a ban on transgender athletes. I also want to encourage you to speak out against Governor Newsom who, in the face of threats from the Trump Administration, has supported CIF’s decision and has used discriminatory language like “biologically male” to describe athletes and students. Trump targeted Maine with similar threats to state funding unless they discriminated against trans people. In response, Maine sued the Trump Administration and won. Governor Newsom, on the other hand, wants to capitulate to the hateful demands of President Trump and is willing to sacrifice the human rights and dignities of California citizens. It is important to stop such discriminatory practices from becoming normalized at the state level. Moreover, it’s important for California to set an example that we will not compromise on human rights. California must fight back. California must continue to stand for progress and equality.
