I am writing as a constituent deeply concerned about the foreign policy trajectory of the current administration — particularly regarding Iran and its cascading economic consequences for ordinary Americans.
The failure to achieve a coherent, stable resolution with Iran is not a foreign policy abstraction. It is felt at the gas pump, in commodity prices, in the cost of food produced by American farmers who depend on stable fuel and fertilizer markets. These are real costs borne by real people in this state and across the country.
More troubling is the broader signal being sent to our allies and trading partners.
For decades, the United States maintained a rare and valuable reputation: regardless of which party held power, our international commitments were largely stable.
Countries could plan around us. That predictability was itself a form of economic and diplomatic power.
That reputation is eroding. When partisan politics become the driver of international policy — when alliances shift with election cycles and agreements are discarded without strategic replacement — other nations do not wait. They build alternatives.
They reduce dollar dependency. They find new trade corridors that do not route through Washington’s approval.
The long-term consequence is not just instability in the Middle East. It is a diminished role for the United States in the global economic architecture we helped build.
I urge you to use your position to advocate for a foreign policy grounded in durable strategy, not political cycle.
The costs of the current approach are already here. The worse costs are still ahead.
