I’m writing to you to urge you to stand in support of a ceasefire in Palestine that will be the crux of the special UN General Assembly meeting on Tuesday, December 12.
On October 27, the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution ES-10/21, a non legally-binding resolution calling for an “immediate and sustained” humanitarian truce and cessation of hostilities, demanding that “all parties immediately and fully comply with their obligations under international law.”
Since “Israel” ramped up its genocide of Palestinians in October, the US has TWICE vetoed a ceasefire at the UN Security Council. This has led to the UN Secretary-General invoking Article 99, a rare occurrence in modern history, showcasing just how urgently a ceasefire is needed.
Most recently and pressingly, the representatives of Egypt and Mauritania at the UN have invoked Article 377, due to the UNSC’s failure to “exercise its primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security,” at the hands of the US vetos providing cover for Israel to continue its genocidal campaign. An emergency meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 12.
As your constituent, I demand that you stand in support of an immediate ceasefire in Palestine, and pressure the US representatives at the UN to vote YES on a ceasefire. Your failure to act immediately will end your career, due to your defiance of the will of your constituents and your active participation in genocide. We will remember.
