We’re Less Safe, Less United, It’s Time to Put America First

Our nation's strength has always thrived on unity, decency, and courage in facing challenges together. I am deeply concerned about recent government changes that leave us less prepared, safe, and trusted.
We face significant threats, including China’s ambitions, Middle East instability, cyberattacks, and economic uncertainty. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has emphasized that competition with China will shape our world in the coming decades. These issues require expertise, steady leadership, and bipartisan resolve—not just slogans and quick fixes.
The mass firings of career civil servants and the politicization of agencies have weakened our response capability. Federal judges have called these actions unconstitutional, undermining checks and balances that protect our freedoms.
President Lincoln reminded us that government must be “of the people, by the people, for the people.” When expertise is sidelined and dissent silenced, we all lose.
The focus on mass deportations distracts us from more significant threats to our safety and prosperity. Immigration is a complex issue requiring bipartisan action, with immigrants contributing to our economy and communities.
Cuts to agencies like the Mine Safety and Health Administration and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency have endangered lives and national security. History shows that democracies fail when divided and intolerant. As Ronald Reagan stated, America must remain a nation open to all beliefs.
This is about standing up for our founding ideals—the rule of law, respect for expertise, and compassion. I urge you to collaborate across party lines and prioritize the American people. Our future depends on it.
