4 Days Isn’t Enough, Call for a Complete Ceasefire in Gaza
71 so far! Help us get to 100 signers!
While a 4 day ceasefire in Gaza is certainly better than nothing, it’s vitally important that we don’t lose sight of the next goal of a complete ceasefire, or the ultimate goal of an end to the occupation of Palestine.
Given the US government’s seeming indifference to the suffering of the millions of Palestinians in Gaza and, increasingly, the West Bank, it’s hard to not look at this as simply a way to appease voters, without truly ending support for Israel’s violent actions. The US government continues to deny that Israel’s ultimate goal is the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, despite many current and former Israeli officials making public statements that express that, or even outright genocide, as the intent of the current conflict.
You were elected to represent the interests of your constituents. Polls from both Reuters and Data for Progress show that the majority of people across the country (approximately 75% of Democrats and 50% of Republicans) support a ceasefire, but very few Congresspeople reflect that (about 45 have supported a ceasefire in some capacity out of 535 total, a dismal 8.5%). I call on you to do your duty to the American people and call for an immediate and total ceasefire.
