The shocking and devastating murder of Charlie Kirk and the shooting at the high school in Denver highlight the need for stricter gun control. The US has a mass shooting every day, and the 2nd amendment was never intended to turn every citizen or child into a one-person death machine. If we had even a fraction of the education requirement for buying a gun that someone has to go through for getting divorced or getting an abortion, we'd be better off; if before purchasing a legal firearm a person had to watch a video about gun death statistics, proper storage safety in the home, and laws and regulations regarding carrying and using a firearm, we'd have more responsible gun owners. If the US limited the amount of ammunition a person could legally obtain in one month we'd reduce mass shootings, and if in order to legally purchase a firearm or ammunition, a person had to provide the same identification information the pharmacy requires in order to purchase a 12-pack of Sudafed, we'd gain the ability to track large purchases of ammunition, even across different locations, and the situation could be investigated, just like what happens if someone buys Sudafed at multiple pharmacies. We already have the software and technology to do this! This country has a gun problem, and while no laws will fix it right away, if you never start nothing will ever change. I call on Congress implement mandatory gun education and ammunition-buying limitations and surveillance to slow down the gun violence crisis in America.
