An open letter to the President

Safeguard Against Unjust Prosecutions

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I am writing to you as a concerned citizen to respectfully urge you to consider granting preemptive pardons to individuals who may be unjustly prosecuted under a future administration. Our nation finds itself in a unique and unprecedented period of American history, where the rule of law and the impartiality of justice are increasingly at risk of being undermined by political motivations. Throughout our history, the pardon power has served as a crucial safeguard to uphold justice, especially in times of national division or political tumult. Today, as political polarization reaches levels not seen in modern history, the specter of politically motivated prosecutions looms large. This moment demands a courageous and decisive use of your constitutional authority to protect individuals who may be unfairly targeted simply for their actions, beliefs, or affiliations. This step, while extraordinary, is necessary because we are no longer operating within the predictable framework of governance that has historically characterized our democracy. Emerging evidence suggests that some individuals may face retribution not for legitimate legal transgressions, but for having stood on the wrong side of political power during your administration or having made principled decisions that do not align with future leadership priorities. A preemptive pardon would neutralize the threat of such unjustified prosecutions and ensure that justice remains impartial and uncorrupted by politics. I respectfully urge you to cast a wide net in considering these pardons. No one should be left vulnerable simply due to oversight or lack of access to advocacy. At the same time, I recommend that you consult with individuals who may be considered for clemency to ensure that the pardon is welcomed, as accepting one carries implicit legal and reputational implications that may not be appropriate or desired in every case. This bold and compassionate action would set a critical precedent: that America will not allow its justice system to be weaponized. It would also serve as a reminder that the Presidency is not just an office of power, but one of moral leadership and guardianship of our nation’s founding principles. Mr. President, I am confident that history will look favorably on a leader who acted decisively to shield the innocent from the potential for persecution. This is not just a moment to address individual cases but to affirm our commitment to the integrity of the American justice system and the preservation of our democracy. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. I remain hopeful that under your leadership, the principles of fairness, justice, and decency will prevail, even in the face of the extraordinary challenges our nation currently faces.
