This June, the Supreme Court is poised to strip millions of Americans’ access to reproductive healthcare. For decades the drug Mifepristone has been safely used to treat miscarriages, Cushing Syndrome, uterine leiomyomas, and early first-trimester medical abortions. Now, the courts seek to ban this life saving drug. As your constituent, I am urging you to take immediate legislative action to safeguard access to Mifepristone.
As a lawmaker, you have the power to ensure that all individuals have access to safe and legal reproductive healthcare. Gallup public opinion polls show 69% of all Americans support first trimester abortions, which make up 88% of all abortions in the United States. Mifepristone, used in pregnancies up to 10 weeks, is central to these early abortion procedures. Yet, the fate of our healthcare system hinges on nine nonelected individuals. In light of this impending threat, I urge you to:
1) Introduce and champion legislation to protect Mifepristone, ensuring continued access to this vital medication for a range of conditions, from Cushing Syndrome to early first trimester abortions.
2) Mobilize your colleagues to vocalize opposition against any efforts to ban Mifepristone, emphasizing evidence-based policymaking and reproductive autonomy.
Since the overturning of Roe, we have entered an unprecedented era in American history: for the first time, young people will grow up having fewer rights than their parents did. I implore you to stand on the right side of history by taking decisive action to protect reproductive rights. Your leadership and advocacy not only protect the health and dignity of all Americans but also uphold the very principles of autonomy upon which our nation was founded.
