A recent White House executive order announced a directive to assess the “threat” of various mental health medications, including but not limited to SSRIs, mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, and stimulants. Purportedly, taking people off of these medications will cause their very real conditions to magically disappear and make them eligible for military service, a concern that was expressed directly in the order. Unfortunately, you and I both know that’s not how medicine works. That’s not how science works. We can’t just deny access to care and expect everything to be okay. If Musk circumventing YOUR authority and creating his own department while infiltrating and shutting down others isn’t enough to light a fire under you, then consider what will happen when your loved ones, your family members, are denied care that improves their quality of life. Imagine what will happen when a new mother, denied medication for postpartum depression, kills her children or herself because she’s not allowed antidepressants. That’s not “family first.” You swore to uphold the Constitution and protect it and your constituents from all threats both foreign and domestic. These past few weeks, the courts have been doing what you refuse to. Even Mitch McConnell has seen how horrible things are now, and nobody ever expected him to flip. You are being called now to act. To protect your constituents, to protect your family, your loved ones, from people who are unqualified, from people who would subvert your own authority and power, from people whose only goal is adding another gilded lining to their own pockets. I am begging you - don’t sell us out to Elon Musk. He’s bought Trump. We know this. Don’t let him continue to play you for a fool.
