An open letter to State Governors (Calif. only)

Inaccessible Emergency Information Kills Disabled People

2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

Sad as it is that abled people need a law to compel them to treat disabled people as equal members of the public, too many government agencies run by abled people still aren't obeying the law. Heatready.gov just launched, and if you want to find out where cooling centers are, you're taken to a link to CaOES, an undescriptive set of links to county sites with wildly varying levels of accessibility. Yolo County's is on ArcGIS instead of being a simple screen-readable list of cooling centers. This makes emergency information harder to access for a population more at risk of injury or dying in emergencies. Humans do not answer calls to CalOES, and no e-mail contact information is available. So, Governor Newsom, I am asking for your help. This is very serious and needs to be remedied ASAP. If our state government employed disabled people in leadership in the numbers in the general population, we could likely avoid these potentially deadly mess-ups. Thank you.
