In the wake of another tragedy, I write to you to implore, plead and cajole you to support of any and all measures to re-energize the fight against those Members of Congress who oppose Gun Safety Laws. Lowering the availability of weapons will help lower crime, lower health care costs, and most importantly, save lives of all ages.
Polls have shown that most gun owners themselves are in favor of these kinds of laws. It’s strange that law enforcement cannot bring itself to support these efforts in a meaningful way, even if only to ban assault weapons and large magazines. They must be spoken to and their support obtained.
I support these efforts (and more) in support of sensible Gun Safety:
1. Licensing and federal registration of all gun sales
2. Licensing, proof of insurance, and periodic re-certification of a gun license, much like a Driver’s License
3. Banning all assault weapons sales in the U-S and U-S held territories
4. Banning sale of large magazines for existing weapons of any type
5. Allow lawsuits against gun manufacturers
We realize that any of this is contingent on votes in the House and Senate. Therefore, pressure must be placed on those Members of Congress from within the House itself that have the most possibility of changing sides and/or being voted out of office. Other, less reasonable Members of Congress need to be tarred with the deaths of people each time they tragically occur, so that they are linked in the shame of inaction forever.
Guns are a cancer that affects the whole country’s health. Let’s treat them like they are a sickness and cure them with fair but thorough Gun Control Laws and enforcement. Thank you.
