As your constituent, I am deeply concerned about the potential threat that a closed-door fiscal commission poses to Social Security and Medicare.
These essential programs are lifelines for millions of seniors, veterans, disabled persons, and children in our country. Any cuts or changes to them should be made openly and with thorough discussion and public input.
The fact that the commission's proceedings would be closed-door raises suspicions that these bills’ supporters have something to hide from the American people, who overwhelmingly prefer to see these programs expanded, not cut.
I strongly urge you to reject any proposals for a closed-door fiscal commission and support bills like Rep. John Larson’s Social Security 2100 Act which strengthen Social Security over the long term and expand benefits.
