An open letter to the U.S. House of Representatives
Kean and staff: your legacy need not be nefarious. Speak up. Now

Recent reports that Donald Trump took to social media to celebrate the death of Robert Mueller—a man who served this country with decades of integrity—should alarm anyone who still believes public office requires basic decency. Even the appearance of such conduct reflects a profound moral failure and a corrosion of the standards that are supposed to guide American leadership.
You have, at times, aligned yourself with Trump. That makes this moment a test of your judgment and your character. Silence now is not neutrality—it is complicity. If there were ever a time to draw a line, to reject the normalization of cruelty and vindictiveness in our politics, this is it. Leadership is not measured by loyalty to a man; it is measured by loyalty to principle.
History is unforgiving to those who recognize wrongdoing and choose comfort over courage. You still have the opportunity to separate yourself from conduct that demeans the office you hold and the people you represent. Take it.
Addendum to Staff:
You are the ones who see the day-to-day reality up close. Pay attention. Watch what is said, what is excused, and what is quietly accepted. Decide—deliberately—whether this is the legacy you want your name attached to. No title or career advancement is worth being part of something you know is wrong.
