Ukraine Matters To U.S. Security
I urge you to support strong U.S. engagement for Ukraine - including military supplies, intelligence cooperation, and sanctions enforcement - while shaping a fair end to the war that upholds Ukrainian sovereignty, assures territorial integrity, and includes enforceable security guarantees.
Ukraine is a democratically elected government defending itself against an unprovoked invasion. Ukrainians have chosen democratic governance and free elections even under attack. Their resistance shows a democracy holding the line, watched by authoritarian powers.
Ukraine lies at a strategic crossroads in Europe, bordering NATO allies and the Black Sea region. Its survival directly affects European stability and U.S. security interests.
If Russia succeeds in subjugating Ukraine or freezing the conflict on its terms, the danger will not end there. Such an outcome would embolden further aggression and increase pressure on NATO allies.
What Congress Has Already Done
Since Russia’s 2022 invasion, Congress has authorized military, economic, and humanitarian assistance that has helped Ukraine defend its cities and protect civilians. U.S. intelligence sharing and allied sanctions have constrained Russia’s military capacity and reinforced NATO unity.
What Ukraine Still Needs
Russia continues to target civilian infrastructure and test Western resolve. Ukraine still faces shortages of ammunition and air defense interceptors. Intelligence cooperation remains essential to saving lives. Sanctions pressure must remain firm so Russia cannot rebuild its war-making capacity.
What Congress Should Do Now
I respectfully urge you to support Ukraine by taking the following actions:
(1) Provide sustained, predictable military and air defense support so Ukraine can plan effectively and deter further aggression.
(2) Expand and protect intelligence cooperation to help Ukraine defend civilians and anticipate attacks.
(3) Enforce and strengthen sanctions on Russia, with any relief conditioned on verified withdrawal, compliance, and respect for international law.
(4) Set firm congressional guardrails for peace efforts, making clear that the United States should not legitimize aggression or coercion, and that any settlement must result from genuine negotiations, include enforceable security guarantees, and prevent Russia from using force or intimidation to extract further concessions.
(5) Support reconstruction and economic stabilization planning so Ukraine can rebuild infrastructure and restore essential services.
Why This Matters Now
This moment is decisive. Aid levels and diplomatic positions are being reassessed. Delay or weakened support would signal hesitation and encourage Russia to prolong the war. Clear congressional leadership now can shape a just settlement and prevent a frozen war.
