Cancel Big Bend Construction and Protect All National Parks from Border Wall Projects

Cancel the border construction contracts in Big Bend National Park permanently, and pass legislation barring CBP from conducting any construction activity in any national park. A temporary pause is not enough. The bulldozers need to leave, the waivers need to be rescinded, and every wall plan for the greater Big Bend region needs to be scrapped for good.
The administration's own data undermines the case for this project. Border crossings in the Big Bend region are historically low and have dropped further over the past two years. The terrain — 1,000-foot riverbank cliffs, steep mountains, deep canyons — already functions as a natural barrier, as Sen. John Cornyn himself acknowledged in his letter to Secretary Mullin. Construction is threatening archeological sites, Native American burial grounds, and one of the last stretches of genuinely dark night sky in the country. This isn't a tradeoff between security and scenery. It's destruction for no security gain.
The bipartisan opposition here is real: Democratic and Republican sheriffs, former park officials, local businesses, and Texas elected officials are all aligned. That consensus deserves a permanent answer, not a photo-op visit. Make the pause permanent, cancel the contracts, and put protections in place so no other national park faces this.
