I’m writing today to urge you and your colleagues in Congress to prepare now for the day when Democrats control the Presidency and Congress and work to pass laws to put into a legal framework all the unspoken standards of democratic norms that President Trump, as well as past presidents, have broken. By this I mean things like banning the President from directing the DOJ to investigate specific people, limiting executive orders, strengthening the emoluments clause, require presidential candidates to share their tax returns, campaign finance reform to get big $ out of politics, and all the other things that have happened these past 9 months. You must be ready to act to protect democracy in the future. We cannot rely on the unwritten norms any longer. I hope and pray you are already working on this, but if not it needs to start and be a sort of Project 2026 for Democrats to lead the way to a more democratic America.
