Reject discriminatory HB1585, protect transgender students' privacy and wellbeing

Reject HB1585 and Protect the Rights of Transgender Students I strongly oppose HB1585, the Prohibiting Parental Secrecy Policies In Schools Act of 2023. This bill violates the privacy and wellbeing of transgender and gender non-conforming students by requiring schools to disclose their gender identity to parents without consent. Forcing schools to out students to their parents puts vulnerable youth at risk of abuse, rejection, and homelessness. Every child deserves to feel safe and affirmed at school regardless of their gender identity or expression. HB1585 would create an unsafe environment for LGBTQ+ students by denying them access to gender-affirming resources and support. I urge you to reject this discriminatory legislation that targets an already marginalized group of young people. Protect transgender students' rights to privacy, access affirming care, and feel secure in their identities.
