Defund and Dismantle ICE

I am writing to issue a clear and urgent demand: the next legislative action must include the full defunding and dismantling of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). ICE has repeatedly demonstrated that it operates as a lawless, unaccountable agency that terrorizes communities, violates due process, separates families, and uses cruelty as political theater. Its continued existence is not a necessity — it is a choice. And it is a choice the American people are increasingly rejecting. We have watched ICE ignore court orders, detain and deport people without adequate legal process, target asylum seekers and children, and act with near-total impunity. This is not public safety. This is state-sanctioned abuse. Incremental reforms, “oversight,” or temporary funding freezes are no longer acceptable. ICE must be defunded in full and dismantled. Any legitimate immigration functions can and should be handled by agencies that operate transparently, humanely, and in compliance with the Constitution. The protests across this country are not symbolic. They are a mandate. Voters are paying attention to who continues to bankroll an agency that has lost all moral and legal legitimacy. If Congress continues to approve funding for ICE in any form, it is choosing to ignore the will of the people it was elected to represent.
