Demand Investigation Into AG Bondi and ICE Following Fatal Minneapolis Shooting

I am writing to demand a full investigation into Attorney General Pam Bondi and ICE operations in Minnesota following the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse and U.S. citizen, by a Border Patrol agent on Saturday morning near 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue in south Minneapolis. The facts of this case reveal a disturbing pattern. Pretti was a U.S. citizen with a legal permit to carry, lived in Minneapolis, and had only traffic violations on his criminal record according to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara. Video footage shows at least 10 shots fired by at least one Border Patrol agent while Pretti was on the ground. The footage does not show Pretti holding a gun, and Border Patrol Commander-At-Large Gregory Bovino did not state whether Pretti pulled a gun or where the gun was when he was shot. This is the third incident involving federal agents since Operation Metro Surge began, with two of the three shootings being fatal. AG Bondi's response to this shooting makes clear that ICE is being weaponized as a political tool rather than conducting legitimate law enforcement. Her letter to Governor Walz demands access to state Medicaid and SNAP records, voter rolls for the Civil Rights Division, and the repeal of sanctuary policies. These demands have nothing to do with the shooting of an American citizen by federal agents and everything to do with coercing state compliance with a broader political agenda. When federal agents kill U.S. citizens during immigration enforcement operations and the Attorney General responds by threatening the state rather than investigating the shooting, we have moved far beyond legitimate law enforcement. This is the second fatal shooting by ICE or Border Patrol agents in Minnesota in recent weeks, following the January 7 killing of Renee Good. I urge you to call for an immediate independent investigation into AG Bondi's conduct and ICE operations in Minnesota. Federal agents must be held accountable for the deaths of American citizens.
