Protect Gender-Affirming Care for Transgender Youth

I am writing to express grave concern over the executive order signed by President Trump that aims to ban federal funding for medical institutions providing gender-affirming care to transgender youth under the age of 19. This order threatens to restrict essential, potentially life-saving medical care for a vulnerable population based on inaccurate and unscientific claims. Major medical associations like the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics agree that gender-affirming care is medically necessary and appropriate for transgender youth. Puberty blockers, for example, are safe, reversible medications that give youth more time to explore their gender identity. Gender-affirming surgeries for minors are extremely rare. Denying access to gender-affirming care can have devastating consequences, increasing risks of depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation among trans youth. All young people deserve access to evidence-based medical care delivered under medical supervision and with input from their families. I urge you to oppose this discriminatory executive order and instead support policies that protect the health and wellbeing of all youth, including transgender youth. Healthcare decisions should be made between patients, families, and doctors - not by politicians pedaling misinformation. Please stand up for transgender kids' access to appropriate medical care.
