An open letter to the U.S. Senate

Oppose Budget Provision Undermining Enforcement of Court Orders

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I urge you to work to remove the deeply troubling provision in the current budget reconciliation package that would severely limit enforcement of contempt of court charges. This provision is not about fiscal responsibility—it is a political maneuver, inserted to give the Trump administration and its allies license to defy lawful court orders without consequence. It is an attack on the very foundation of our government: the rule of law and the separation of powers. As U.S. Senators, your oath is not to a party or a president, but to the Constitution. Undermining the judiciary’s ability to enforce its rulings is a dangerous and authoritarian step. It opens the door to unchecked executive power and puts every American’s rights at risk. If you believe in accountability, in co-equal branches of government, and in protecting the basic functioning of our democracy, then I urge you to publicly and forcefully oppose this provision. Our courts must not be rendered powerless for the sake of shielding political allies.
