An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Constitutional concerns

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

The president's attempt to freeze congressionally appropriated funds raises serious constitutional concerns and threatens the balance of power between the executive and legislative branches. Unilaterally blocking funds that have been authorized and allocated by Congress undermines the authority vested in the legislative branch by the Constitution to determine spending priorities. This impoundment of funds violates the Impoundment Control Act of 1974 and represents an overreach of presidential power. It is crucial that the legislative branch assert its prerogative over federal spending to uphold the system of checks and balances and prevent further erosion of congressional authority. Appropriate oversight and legal action may be necessary to compel compliance with the law and prevent this dangerous precedent from taking hold.
