YOU’RE GONNA NEED MORE BUSES

Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas. Finally. Our state Republican leadership is showing some humanity when it comes to folks seeking the promise of America. Gov. Abbott is finally using his tax-paying constituents’ money for a good purpose. I’m not speaking of the spectacle of tax-payer paid DPS checking tire pressure at the border to save us from invading hordes from down south. That’s a totally different sh*tshow. That’s just making us mad because we can’t get avocados. Or a lot of most anything. (It seems curious that creating an issue with Mexico, who seems to be a convenient trading alternative to our China dependence seems a good thing to our business-loving Republican leaders. Doesn’t it?) But back to the act of kindness I started with. Busing migrants, at their request, at our expense, to areas they otherwise could not have managed on their own. Where they wished to go. Where they hoped to go. To help them in their quest for a better life. Of course we know that was not the intent. But it was definitely the outcome. So thank you Gov. Abbott for finally displaying some of that much-vaunted Texas hospitality. Even though your bad-faith effort was hoping for the opposite. But I’m still voting for Beto. P.S. It must be really galling to have the folks you were hoping to use as political pawns instead thanking you, with sincerity, for the great largess shown by the great state of Texas. I expect they will be telling all their friends.
