Ethical oversight needed for foreign gift of Boeing 747

The gift of a luxurious Boeing 747-8 jet from the royal family of Qatar to President Trump raises ethical concerns. Although common for heads of state to exchange gifts, the U.S. Constitution prohibits federal officials from personally receiving gifts from foreign states without Congressional approval. Gifts exceeding minimal value are considered property of the American people and must be purchased at fair market value by the recipient to retain ownership after leaving office. This "flying palace" is an unprecedented gift that should belong to the citizens of the United States, not the former president's private possession. Appropriate measures must be taken to ensure ethical standards are upheld and this invaluable asset remains under public ownership unless properly acquired through official channels. Allowing a former leader to personally benefit from such an extravagant foreign gift would set a concerning precedent.
