Congress Must Confront Trump’s Reckless-and now Indifferent-Management of the Iran War President Trump’s handling of this war is infuriating. After months of war, billions of taxpayer dollars spent, American lives placed at risk, innocent civilians killed, military bases damaged, and critical military stockpiles depleted, President Trump now says negotiations with Iran are “very boring” and that he “couldn’t care less” if they collapse.   This is not a reality television show. This is not a business deal that can be abandoned because it no longer holds someone’s attention. This is war. Real people have died. American service members have been put in harm’s way. Families have suffered. The nation has paid an enormous price.  Yet Congress continues to stand by. The Constitution does not give Congress the option of looking the other way when a president wages war without accountability. Every day that Congress refuses to exercise its authority, demand answers, hold hearings, debate continued involvement, and impose limits where necessary, Congress becomes a partner in the consequences. If the war is justified, then have the courage to openly defend it before the American people. If it is not justified, then have the courage to stop it. What cannot continue is this dangerous combination of presidential impulsiveness and congressional passivity. History will not ask whether members of Congress were worried about political fallout. History will ask whether they fulfilled their constitutional duty when lives, national security, and billions of public dollars were at stake. You have the power to act.  Use it.  Now
