Uphold the Right to Peaceful Protest! Do turn the Military against Citizens!

I’m writing to you not just as a constituent, but as someone who believes deeply in the promise of American democracy and the oath our leaders take to uphold the Constitution.
I am deeply concerned by former President Trump’s recent threats—and efforts—to mobilize the military against the American people under the claim of suppressing “riots” and “disturbances.” From what I’ve seen, these claims do not reflect reality. There have been peaceful demonstrations, not violent uprisings. This distortion of the truth appears to be a political tactic to justify force, not a measured response to any real emergency.
Let us be clear: the people of the United States are not the enemy. Greed, tyranny, and authoritarianism are the real threats to our nation. When military power is turned inward, not to protect, but to suppress and intimidate, we begin to lose the very freedoms that define us.
Using the military to intimidate citizens should alarm every one of us, regardless of party. It’s not the act of a democratic leader—it’s a move toward authoritarian control. These actions threaten the foundational rights of all Americans.
This moment demands more than silence. It calls for moral clarity, for leadership grounded in decency and principle. I am asking you to publicly oppose the use of military force against civilians where no violence has occurred and to defend the rights of peaceful assembly and protest.
I know the weight of your responsibilities, and I trust that your conscience will guide you in recognizing the danger we face if we normalize this kind of abuse. Please take a stand—not for any party, but for the country, and for the people you represent.
I respectfully request your response and your commitment to protecting out nation.
