SB 1002: Promoting Discriminatory Practices in Arizona Schools This proposed legislation represents a concerning infringement on the rights and wellbeing of transgender and non-binary students in Arizona's public schools. By prohibiting school employees from using a student's preferred name and pronouns without explicit parental consent, the bill essentially forces students to be misgendered and deadnamed by staff members. This policy is not only psychologically harmful but also disregards the autonomy and identity of these young individuals. Furthermore, preventing school staff from using appropriate pronouns as a condition of employment raises serious concerns about fostering an inclusive and respectful environment for all. I urge you to consider the detrimental impact this bill could have on already marginalized students and reject measures that promote discrimination within our education system. Every student deserves to feel safe, respected, and empowered in their learning environment.
