When Senator Peter Welch read her retweets aloud—posts describing political parties as "traitors" and "patriots" and referencing a "party of hate"—Westercamp refused to clarify what she meant. She told Welch repeatedly she did not "have an answer." This isn't about poor social media judgment. This is about a judicial nominee who won't explain which Americans she considers traitors and which party she believes spreads hate. Westercamp's defense that Twitter is "not the right platform" for controversial opinions dodges the real question: does she hold those opinions? As Welch pointed out, retweeting is an active decision to amplify a message. Federal judges must demonstrate sound judgment and intellectual honesty. Westercamp has shown neither. Her evasiveness under questioning suggests she knows her views are disqualifying but hopes to avoid accountability by claiming she can't remember what she meant by her own retweets. The Court of International Trade deserves a judge who can defend their reasoning. Westercamp has proven she cannot.
