I was shocked and horrified to learn that your new podcast not only gave platform to anti-LGBTQ+ extremist Charlie Kirk, but you also agreed with his harmful comments about transgender people participating in sports!
There is no evidence of harm coming to anyone because a trans person was allowed to compete in a sporting event. Trans people aren’t hurting anyone, and echoing this view opens the floor to a debate as to trans people’s rights to exist in public at all. This degradation of an already marginalized minority lays the groundwork for larger attacks against other queer people and minority populations.
You are meant to be the governor for all Californians! That includes trans people. I expected much better from you.
I write this letter to urge you to denounce Charlie Kirk’s inflammatory positions and do more to demonstrate your support of the LGBTQ+ community, particularly trans people, who are already under attack on so many fronts.
