It's time to permanently expand unemployment. Denying people who quit or are fired just makes it easier for abusive employers to exploit workers. People need to be able to leave jobs without fear of homelessness. The inability to do so drives down wages, and makes it less likely for people to report workplace abuse and exploitation. How are workers supposed to negotiate fair wages if they don't have the ability to walk away without risking homelessness for themselves and their loved ones?
Some people may argue that this could make it easier to abuse the system. They are more interested in keeping systems of abuse in place than helping people. We have tons of economic data that unemployment is better for everyone. It reduces the impact of recessions and improves the economy on the macro level. Let's make our economy stronger and our world better at the same time. Nobody should be stuck in an abusive situation because they are afraid of what might happen to them or their child if they leave.
