The state of Israel is not the same thing as the Jewish faith. Protest is a foundational part of being a part of this "land of the free and home of the brave." Allowing this genocide in
Palestine to continue is detrimental to the soul of Judaism and in equating the state of Israel with the whole of Judaism we are promoting a violent and antisemitic narrative. It is akin to saying Jimmy Carter and Donald Trump are both the same kind of Christian but that Carter can't disagree with how Trump behaves because that would be an attack on Christians everywhere. You've gotta remember Kent State, if you want a free and engaged society, an educated electorate, you've got to support student rights to protest injustice with the freedom America promises. This is how we learn to respond to history, how we learn our part on the global stage, how we practice the ideals on which we say our nation was founded, despite how the practices of slavery, misogyny, classism, and violence are in our national DNA. Protesting injustice is how we become the nation we claim to be, and continuing to arm the state of Israel while our own citizens are drowning in medical debt, student loans, and rising housing costs is all around destructive. We have no business, no place, playing police officers to the world if we are going to continue answering violence with escalated violence - this is only making the planet less and less inhabitable for current and future generations. Stop arming Israel, stop calling protests against genocide in Palestine "anti-semitic," and talk to America like we have half a brain about history, so maybe we can behave like we are capable of bearing this responsibility with half a shred of human decency. We can't just keep bombing Palestine until the memory of 1948 has died out, that's no way for anyone to live, or to build peace, or to govern.
