Keep the Home Rule Act

The District of Columbia has been granted a degree of self-governance through the Home Rule Act, allowing residents to elect a mayor and city council to manage local affairs. Removing this autonomy and placing D.C. under direct federal control would undermine democratic principles and disenfranchise the district's residents. While addressing issues like crime and homelessness is crucial, stripping D.C. of its home rule authority is not the solution. We should instead focus on investing in community-based programs, social services, and evidence-based policies that uplift all residents and make the city safer and more equitable for everyone. Maintaining D.C.'s independent status is essential for preserving the rights and representation of its citizens.
