I am writing as a constituent to express my deep concern about the provision in the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” that would limit the power of the federal courts. When I first heard about this, I assumed it must be an exaggeration or misinterpretation—surely no serious legislative proposal would seek to strip courts of their role in checking executive power. But to my dismay, the proposal is real.
If enacted, this provision would dangerously undermine the system of checks and balances that has defined and protected our democracy for generations. The idea that any president—regardless of party—could be effectively placed beyond judicial review is not only alarming but fundamentally un-American.
I urge you to oppose any legislation that would restrict the courts’ authority in this way. Our nation depends on the independence of the judiciary to uphold the rule of law, protect individual rights, and prevent the abuse of power.
Thank you for your service and for standing up for our democracy
