An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Protect essential social programs, reject budget plan prioritizing wealthy

The Republican budget plan advanced by the House proposes over $1 trillion in cuts to vital programs like Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). These programs provide essential healthcare and nutritional assistance to millions of low-income Americans, including children, the elderly, and those with disabilities. Slashing funding for these critical safety nets to finance tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations is deeply concerning. It prioritizes profits over people and undermines the well-being of our most vulnerable communities. We must prioritize protecting and investing in social programs that promote public health, combat poverty, and uplift those in need, rather than catering to the interests of the privileged few.
