An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures (Texas only)

Talarico Deserves Respect, Not Paxton’s Dangerous Rhetoric

5 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!

Ken Paxton’s recent insult calling James Talarico a “lunatic” is unacceptable. That kind of rhetoric mimics Trump’s dangerous attacks that preceded real violence. Texas deserves leaders who debate policy, not dehumanize opponents with slurs. Such language does not uphold civil standards, it degrades public discourse. Studies show inflammatory political rhetoric increases hate crimes and threats nationwide. When public officials use sharp insults, their base feels license for aggression. Democracy weakens when insults replace substantive disagreement. Texas Legislature and state government must demand Paxton retract this attack immediately. He should issue a public apology to Talarico and Texans offended. More importantly, leaders must demand removal from any public office post if rhetoric continues. Accountability begins with consequences, especially from those sworn to uphold justice.
