An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress; State Governors & Legislatures

You Can’t Cherry-Pick Your Way to Theocracy.

You want to force the Bible into classrooms—while defending a president who lies, cheats, brags, bullies, divides, taxes the poor, glorifies money, mocks women, and literally sells Bibles with his name and face on them? Let’s stop pretending this is about God. It’s about control—and the students you’re targeting are going to see right through it. The Bible is not one fixed book: • It’s 66 books (more in some traditions), written over 1,000+ years • Translated into 3,000+ languages • Over 100 English versions—each shaped by politics, culture, and theology • Words have been changed, added, or erased to please kings, popes, and politicians • Books have been removed (like the Apocrypha) because they didn’t fit someone’s version of “truth” Even Genesis contradicts itself: • Chapter 1: God creates male and female together • Chapter 2: God creates man, then woman from his rib So which version will kids be tested on? Which translation will they recite? Which verses will be skipped? Because here’s what students will ask: • Did Jesus say anything about abortion? No. Not once. He spoke about love, healing, and mercy—but never abortion. • Did Jesus say being gay is wrong? Also no. He never said a word about homosexuality. Let’s take “homosexuality” and see how quickly the lie falls apart: • The word politicians love to quote—arsenokoitai—shows up in 1 Corinthians 6:9. • It’s a Greek mash-up: arsēn (male) + koitē (bed), and Paul likely coined it himself. • It didn’t clearly mean “gay person”—and it didn’t appear as “homosexual” in any Bible until 1946 in the Revised Standard Version. • Earlier Bibles said things like “sexual perverts” or “abusers.” • And even that 1946 translation team later admitted the “homosexual” phrasing might’ve been a mistake. Jesus? Said nothing. Not once. So when you pass modern laws to punish LGBTQ+ people using a mistranslated, undefined, 2,000-year-old word—students will notice. You’re not enforcing scripture. You’re enforcing a lie. And they’ll keep reading: • Proverbs 27:2 – “Let someone else praise you, not your own mouth” • Matthew 6:24 – “You cannot serve both God and money” • Exodus 20:4 – “You shall not make an idol”—yet you’ve made one out of a man with golden statues • Luke 6:24 – “Woe to you who are rich” • Matthew 23 – Jesus condemning religious leaders who “tie up heavy burdens but won’t lift a finger to help” If this is really about faith, then you’re bound to all of it. You don’t get to cherry-pick verses that prop up your politics while ignoring the parts that call you out. And if this is about power—then God help you when the next generation reads the very book you’ve weaponized. Because the Bible wasn’t written to uphold empires. It was written to tear them down.
