Safeguarding Jobs Amid Rapid AI Automation
1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
I’m writing as a concerned constituent from Pasadena regarding the growing threat of job loss due to artificial intelligence. According to Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, AI could eliminate up to 50% of entry-level white-collar jobs within five years. This could push unemployment rates to 10–20%, and California—home to many of these industries—will be hit hard.
While AI brings opportunity, it also risks destabilizing the workforce. We need bold leadership from Sacramento to get ahead of this disruption. I urge you to champion proactive measures that protect workers and prepare our economy.
Please consider:
1. Funding retraining programs through community colleges and workforce boards, helping displaced workers shift into sustainable careers.
2. Creating a California AI Impact Task Force to study job displacement trends and recommend action.
3. Incentivizing responsible AI adoption, offering benefits to companies that retrain rather than lay off.
4. Improving transparency, requiring reporting when AI drives major layoffs.
5. Strengthening safety nets, including faster unemployment support and better access to job placement services.
California is a leader in tech. Let’s also lead in protecting people from tech’s unintended consequences.
Thank you for your time and service. I’m happy to be involved in any community engagement or support efforts tied to this issue.
