Oppose the SAVE Act — Protect Eligible Americans’ Right to Vote

14 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

I am a constituent writing with serious concern about the SAVE Act, which has now passed the House and would endanger eligible American citizens’ right to vote while undermining the integrity and administration of our elections. This bill creates immediate and foreseeable harm to U.S. citizens exercising a fundamental constitutional right. We have already seen the real-world consequences of proof-of-citizenship voting schemes. In Kansas (2014–2018), a similar requirement blocked more than 31,000 eligible American citizens from registering to vote before federal courts struck it down. In Arizona (September 2024), a database error wrongly altered the citizenship status of more than 200,000 longtime registered voters, throwing their eligibility into question weeks before an election. In Alabama (August 2024), a purge of 3,251 supposed noncitizens was halted after litigation revealed that at least 2,000 were eligible U.S. citizens. These failures harmed lawful voters and disrupted elections. These actions raise serious Fourth Amendment and Due Process concerns. Removing or blocking eligible voters based on flawed data, without notice or meaningful opportunity to contest errors, violates basic constitutional protections and undermines federal election standards intended to protect lawful participation. I am asking you to publicly state on the record that the SAVE Act is unnecessary, dangerous, and unacceptable. I also ask you to take the strongest realistic procedural action available by opposing this bill in the Senate and supporting or initiating formal oversight or blocking action to prevent its enactment, including committee opposition or public leadership against final passage. As additional backstop actions, I expect your office to support safeguards that prohibit voter roll purges without advance notice and to defend existing federal law, which already makes noncitizen voting illegal without disenfranchising eligible Americans. Further voter disenfranchisement caused by wrongful purges, blocked registrations, or last-minute eligibility crises will be foreseeable and preventable, and Congress will share responsibility if it fails to act. I ask that you take these steps within the next 30 days and publicly report your position and actions to constituents. We may not agree on every issue, but protecting eligible Americans’ right to vote should not be partisan. I expect your office to act.
