We are in crisis. There is no corner of the country that remains untouched by gun violence. I live a few blocks away from a recent mass shooting, but this hurts little more than the unrelenting stream of more distant mass shootings in the news.
We are unable to gather on a public street on a warm spring evening, to go to the grocery store, to visit our houses of worship, or to send our children to school without fear of a murderous assault. The nation is being held hostage by the gun lobby and a small but vocal minority of gun owners.
You must enact common sense gun laws - universal background checks, age restrictions, assault rifle bans, red flag laws, and waiting periods are effective, evidence-based approaches. Please, we are begging you to act to protect us.
