Vandalism Isn’t Terrorism: Stop Authoritarian DOJ From Targeting Enemies

A democratic legal system depends on equal treatment under the law. Vandalism at a Ford dealership and vandalism at a Tesla dealership are the same offense. Reclassifying one as “domestic terrorism” because the president favors Tesla is an abuse of power. Trump’s public pledge to buy a Tesla to “show support” (Reuters, 2025-03-11) is not harmless—it reflects his broader effort to turn federal power into a tool for rewarding allies and punishing opponents. Selective prosecution is authoritarianism, not democracy. Trump has already politicized the Department of Justice, pressuring it to target critics and shield loyalists (DOJ Inspector General Report, 2020). Escalating crimes based on political or corporate favoritism is a deliberate attack on equal justice. This isn’t theoretical—it’s happening, and it’s an assault on the foundation of a free society. Congress must immediately investigate Trump, his cabinet, and his Department of Justice for politicizing law enforcement. Judges and lawmakers must act now to restore the rule of law and block this authoritarian power grab. Anything less is a betrayal of democracy and the rights it protects.
