Reject Trump’s Cruelty - Fight for Equitable Immigration Policies

Today I’m writing about the soul of our nation being forced to adhere to inhumane and frankly illegal policies by the Trump Administration on Immigration. President Trump’s unprecedented mass deportation and immigration detention agenda will be catastrophic for all Americans.
While the courts have temporarily blocked his unconstitutional executive order targeting birthright citizenship for violating the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. However, he’s been pushing ahead with the rest of his plans, and we’ve seen the kidnappings and horrifying scenes of mothers torn from their children, a father forced to leave his children alone in a car, and there are too many stories like this to recount here.
This administration, speaking through its ugly megaphone of racism and almost jubilant slant away from equality, fundamentally thinks immigrants don’t belong here.
This kind of thinking undermines the core of American tenets: that we are a nation of immigrants, and we value liberty and justice for all. Under Trump’s policies, so many of our neighbors, family members, and friends are at risk. Normal people all care about the safety and security of our families and communities. But let’s be clear — trying to deport millions of our immigrant friends and neighbors does nothing to make our communities safe.
The fear-mongering around immigrants capitalizes on people’s concerns about their economic situation by shifting blame to vulnerable communities for problems where our leaders have failed us, including but not limited to the housing crisis, the opioid crisis, and rising costs at the grocery store.
These are common tactics from human history going back to medieval times and probably even earlier.
Our elected leaders must adamantly oppose the Trump administration’s cruel and unjust anti-immigrant agenda. This is all a distraction from the fact that his government is incompetent, uncaring and failing to provide the necessary resources to communities across the country to ensure everyone has access to essentials like affordable housing and quality health care.
It’s is urgent for our elected officials to act boldly to rebuke this ugly support of white supremacy by protecting and welcoming immigrants, and all the rights due them under our Constitution.
The story of America is an imperfect story, but we’re ALL immigrants, save for the indigenous peoples we also exploited. We must continue to work towards that more perfect union.
We must fix immigration policies and do the hard work to heal the rifts this maniac, felonious President and his cabal of depraved and cruel advisors have been trumpeting for ten years.
Reject cruelty and support just and equitable immigration policies. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
