Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas.
I guess you know what you’re doing. Lifting all Covid restrictions across the state. It defies logic to the rest of the world, but you’re the boss.
Except when it comes to keeping the lights on. But that’s a dead horse that’s gonna keep getting beat for a while, so I’m leaving that alone.
This decision to open us up for business across the board certainly changes the subject.
Since most of my neighbors don’t wear masks anyway, nothing much will change around here. They’ll keep refusing to wear masks, keep refusing to get vaccinated, and keep coming down with Covid. And with their personal choices, extend the misery for the rest of us who are trying to do the right thing.
And with their personal choices I have no problem at all, if their choices affected only themselves. But it’s all the folks who will now be required to work in less protected environments, who don’t have the luxury to not, who will suffer.
When personal choices impact society in such a negative way as to cause sickness and death to those around you, everyone should have a problem with that. Personal freedom shouldn’t include the right to harm innocent people with selfish actions.
Seems such a counter-productive decision, to take us backwards when we were just beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel.
It just feels like we’ve seen this movie before.
