The administration's plan to drastically cut personnel at the Department of Veterans Affairs raises grave concerns about our ability to fulfill our sacred obligation to support those who have served in uniform. Slashing over 80,000 jobs at the VA not only threatens the quality of care and services veterans rely on, but betrays our nation's commitment to their well-being after putting themselves at risk for our country. While streamlining bureaucracy is a worthy goal, such severe workforce reductions absolutely will overwhelm the VA's capacity to meet the growing needs of our veteran population, including those impacted by toxic exposures from burn pits. We must prioritize providing comprehensive health care, disability benefits, and support services to ensure no veteran is left behind, especially as new legislation expands eligibility. I urge you to carefully reconsider these proposed cuts and instead work to strengthen the VA's resources and staffing to properly serve our nation's heroes. Veterans have sacrificed tremendously for our freedoms, and we have a moral duty to stand by them with access to high-quality care through a robust VA system. Any restructuring efforts must enhance, not diminish, the promise we have made to our veterans.
