An open letter to State Legislatures (Fla. only)

Stop the cruel and unusual incarceration at Alligator Alcatraz

585 so far! Help us get to 1,000 signers!

This letter is in response to the facility, now dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz.” It is cruel and unusual punishment to imprison people in a swamp ridden, mosquito infested and flooded facility. I am beside myself that the State of Florida would allow such disgusting, cruel and unusual incarceration of anyone and for any reason in these unhealthy conditions. There are reports of unhygienic conditions that include no water for bathing, maggots in the food served to the poor souls imprisoned there and electric cords lying on the flooded floors. The prisoners are exposed to mosquitos that can transmit Chikungunya, Dengue, Malaria, Zika and West Nile disease to name a few. This cannot stand. This is squarely in violation of the 5th and 8th Amendments of the Constitution of these United States. I urge you to stop this now. Stop taxpayer funding for this heinous facility. Do your damn job!
