The mom, born in the late 70's, never saw a fresh banana until she was 14 years old, in the early 90's. Just one small example of what it was like living under Russian control, vs. Ukrainian freedom.
She hoards food in our kitchen. They remember.
None of them want to go back under Russian rule. THIS IS WHY THEY FIGHT. THIS is why we must continue to support them.
