Resistbot Petition: VOTE YES

An open letter to the U.S. Congress

VOTE YES

4 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas. I see there’s soon to be a senate vote on Ketanji Brown Jackson for SCOTUS. I see Mitch McConnell is whipping his members to vote no. Curious. What’s he thinking? That most of America is against her nomination? NOPE. That she’s unqualified? NOPE. That she’s a radical? NOPE. I don’t really care what he thinks, because whatever it is, is wrong. And against the will of the majority of Americans. I am just sorry that my Texas senators will no doubt follow happily down whatever path he sends them. Regardless of the dark mark it puts on your voting record. You won’t be alone. And I guess that’s what matters to you in the long run. So much for history and being on the right side of it. Instead, y’all always seem able to veer into the weird and incomprehensible, with little difficulty. As Rebecca Solnit wrote in an opinion piece for the New York Times in January: “When called upon to believe that Barack Obama was really born in Kenya, millions got in line. When encouraged to believe that the 2012 Sandy Hook murder of 20 children and six adults was a hoax, too many stepped up. When urged to believe that Hillary Clinton was trafficking children in the basement of a Washington, D.C., pizza parlor with no basement, they bought it, and one of them showed up in the pizza place with a rifle to protect the kids. The fictions fed the frenzies, and the frenzies shaped the crises of 2020 and 2021. The delusions are legion: Secret Democratic cabals of child abusers, millions of undocumented voters, falsehoods about the Covid-19 pandemic and the vaccine.” I’m not saying any one of you actually believes all that crap. But you do seem to condone it these days. And play to that particular crowd. Which lends it credence. And power. It also seems y’all have been distorted for so long with lying and character assassination that maybe you don’t even care if the reasons for opposing KBJ’s nomination are true or not. And that’s too bad for you. And the majority of your constituents who hope she succeeds.
